Cultural Cruises - THE GORDON RIVER, HISTORY, CULTURE, PEOPLE The Working Waterfront
A cultural cruise to see the waterfront now, with commentary about how it was then...back in the late 1800s. Although early visitors arrived mainly because of the copious varieties of fish, they soon realized the land had plenty to offer. You’ll learn about the Calusa and Seminole Indians, shell mounds, the struggles of early settlers and about the Gordon River, the first “highway,” before there were any roads. You’ll learn about boatbuilding on the water, Naples Pier projecting into the water, early train service to the water, fishing camps, and the wild working waterfront. |
